Projects
Welcome
to the Ynyshir & Wattstown Communities First projects page. Here
you'll find all the latest projects we are involved with,
as well as projects we've worked with in the past. To
view all our projects click on the links below:
Centenary Project
To celebrate 100 years of the Wattstown Miner’s
Institute, we have been working with local residents
both old and young and the local school children. We are
putting together a DVD and Aberllechau Primary School
Children have been making a mosaic to be hung in the
building. This celebration will take place on June 10th.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic
Our annual health and wellbeing event will take
place on Thursday 22nd July 2010 at Wattstown Park. This
free event will be held to deliver information, guidance
and the availability of services to under 5’s, their
parents and carers. Come along fetch your picnic and
your favourite teddy bear to this fun event.
Food co-op
High quality, low cost fruit, vegetable and salad
bags are available to collect every Thursday. Bags cost
£2.50 each and must be ordered and paid for 1 week In
advance. Collection points are Wattstown Community
Centre 12 -12.30pm and Ynyshir Primary School 3 –
3.30pm.
Credit Union
Credit Unions are financial co-operatives offering
savings and great value loans, plus they are ethical and
know what their members want.
Satellite Collection points are Ynyshir Primary School
every Tuesday 8.45-9.15am and every Thursday at
Wattstown Community Centre 9.30-11.30am and Aberllechau
Primary School 3-4pm.
Youth Drop In
Youth Drop In Sessions every Wednesday at Wattstown
Rugby Club for young people in the community aged 8-18
years old. These sessions are from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. We
offer the opportunity to take part in training and the
Communities First process, access to Playstation, Wii
and various games.
Parent & Toddler
We have 2 parent/carer and toddler sessions.
Wednesday 9.30 till 11.15am in Ynyshir Boys Club and
Thursday 9.30 till 11.15am in Wattstown Community
Centre. These sessions are aimed at under 3’s. We have
various toys, equipment, story sessions and craft
activities each week.
College Courses – We have computer courses
running on a Tuesday evening 5:30pm – 8:30pm in
Wattstown Community Centre for beginners and Wednesday
afternoon 1:00pm – 4:00pm in Ynyshir Boys Club
specialising in PowerPoint and Exel
October half term activities – We are having a
bike ride from the Heritage Park to Ynysangharad Park on
Monday 26th October
Big Cook Little Cook - we are holding this event
in Wattstown Community Centre on Friday 30th at 10:30 am
We also have Busy Bees parent and toddler group
in Ynyshir Boys Club every Wednesday 9:30am – 11:15pm
and November 5th we have a parent and toddler group
starting in Wattstown community centre 9:30am – 11:15am
and will then continue every Thursday from this date
Tea Dances – Our next tea dance is 20th October
in Porth County Community School 3:15pm – 5:30pm. Have a
dance and a cup of tea in friendly surroundings everyone

Recreational Projects - We have Keep fit on a
Friday morning 9:00am – 10:00am @ Wattstown Community
Centre also Salsa classes 6:30pm – 8:00pm on a Tuesday
night and we have a walking group that meets every
Tuesday in the Edith May day centre at 10:30pm
Christmas Projects – Porth Lantern parade
children can come to workshops and learn to make their
own lanterns which will then be paraded through the
streets of Ynyshir walking from both Ynsyhir and
Aberllechau Primary schools to St Annes Church
